The Tag des offenen Denkmals is the largest cultural event in Germany. Since 1993, it has been coordinated nationwide by the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and is the German contribution to the European Heritage Days. On-site, the day is organized by numerous monument owners, associations, initiatives, or full-time monument conservators. In addition to the organizers, visitors of all ages are the most important target group of the Tag des offenen Denkmals. They want to get an overview of monuments in their (or other) regions on various platforms before and during the event.
We have implemented the mobile apps for iOS and Android, as well as the website of the Open Monument Day. The goal was not only to make the monuments accessible, but also the associated events to a wide range of users.
We have designed new applications for web and app from the ground up. This is based on user stories defined by us in collaboration with the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz. The user interface relies on a modern, minimalist, yet bold design that is based on the existing brand guidelines of the foundation.
The applications focus on discovering monuments and events. Users can view curated monuments or discover monuments throughout Germany via map. Monuments and events can be filtered as desired, for example by current location, monument category, or accessibility using public transportation.
The app and website not only include all relevant information about monuments and events, but also offer users the opportunity to favorite their favorite monuments to save them to their watchlist. The integrated route planning shows the way to the destination and the weather integration helps to plan the day of the open monument also in terms of clothing.
